“Yanga’s new attacking midfielder, Augustine Okrah, was officially introduced to the club yesterday during their match in the 2024 Mapinduzi Cup tournament. However, the club’s management carefully considered the Ghanaian player, who had a brief stint with Simba in the previous season.

Okrah joined Yanga from Benchem United in Ghana, having previously transferred from Simba at the end of the last season. He becomes Yanga’s second new signing after midfielder Shekhan Ibrahim Khamis from JKU Zanzibar.

The Ghanaian forward, who scored four goals and provided one assist in the Tanzanian Premier League, arrives at Yanga to fill the central defender position vacated by Uganda’s Gift Fred. Fred is expected to bid farewell after failing to meet expectations since his signing in the last transfer window.

To ensure Okrah, who scored nine goals in 15 matches for Benchem in the Ghanaian Premier League this season, performs effectively, Yanga has awarded him a challenging two-year contract. The contract includes stringent disciplinary clauses, requiring him to maintain a high level of discipline throughout his tenure.

Yanga’s decision to offer Okrah a tough contract follows the outcry from fans, insisting on a disciplined player, referencing former Ghanaian winger Bernard Morrison, who played for both Simba and Yanga and currently features for FAR Rabat in Morocco.

The club has assured its fans that Okrah’s contract includes strict disciplinary measures, emphasizing that any breach will have consequences. This move is a response to various claims suggesting Okrah faced disciplinary issues before leaving Simba.

“We are aware of these claims, although we lack concrete evidence as they are currently mere speculations. However, we have taken it seriously, and it won’t be easy for him to repeat any misconduct mentioned,” stated the club’s top official. He further added, “Previous players with similar concerns were given a chance to redeem themselves, and we believe Okrah will adhere to his contract, knowing that any indiscretion will result in immediate consequences to uphold the club’s reputation.”
